Overview
The Interventions & Phase Changes feature helps you systematically track behavioral interventions and visualize their effectiveness over time. Phase change lines mark significant events on your charts, making it easy to see the impact of interventions, medication changes, or environmental shifts.

Vertical lines on charts mark when interventions started, paused, or when significant events occurred.

Before You Start
Ensure you have at least 5-7 days of baseline behavior data before starting an intervention. This provides a reliable comparison point for measuring effectiveness.
Navigate to Intervention Tracking
From your dashboard, click Intervention Tracking in the left sidebar navigation. This opens the intervention management view.

Click the Create New Intervention button in the top-right corner. A modal will appear with the intervention form.

Complete the following fields:
- Student: Select the student this intervention targets
- Intervention Name: A clear, descriptive name (e.g., "Token Economy System")
- Category: Choose from Antecedent, Consequence, Teaching, Environmental, or Other
- Target Behavior: The specific behavior this intervention addresses
- Description: Detailed implementation instructions for staff
- Start Date: When the intervention begins
- Baseline Data: Enter baseline frequency, duration, or intensity

- Goal Type: Reduction percentage or target frequency

Click Create Intervention to save. The system will automatically create a phase change line marking the intervention start date on all related behavior charts.
Phase Change Lines
Phase change lines are vertical markers on your behavior charts that indicate when significant events occurred. They help you visually analyze the impact of changes on student behavior.

Open Effectiveness Analysis
From the Intervention Tracking page, click View Effectiveness Analysis on any intervention card.

Click the Phase Changes tab in the analysis view. This shows all existing phase markers and the option to add new ones.

Click the Add Phase Change button. In the modal:
- Date: Select when the event occurred
- Type: Choose the appropriate category
- Label: A short descriptive name (appears on chart)
- Description: Optional detailed notes

Use the Show Phase Lines toggle in the header to show or hide all phase change lines on the effectiveness chart. Individual lines can be hidden from the Phase Changes tab.
Best Practice: Label Clearly
Use short, clear labels like "New seating chart", "Med increase", or "Sub teacher started" so the chart remains readable.
Effectiveness Analysis
The Effectiveness Analysis view provides statistical insights into whether your intervention is working. It compares baseline data to current behavior patterns and provides actionable recommendations.

Effectiveness Score (0-100%)
A composite score based on frequency change, trend direction, and consistency. Higher scores indicate the intervention is working.
Effect Size (Cohen's d)
Measures the magnitude of change. Values: 0.2 = small, 0.5 = medium, 0.8+ = large effect.
Statistical Significance (p-value)
When p < 0.05, changes are unlikely due to random variation. This typically requires 10+ data points in each phase.
Trend Direction
Shows if behavior frequency is improving (decreasing for target behaviors), stable, or declining.
Minimum Data Required
For reliable statistical analysis, collect at least 5 data points during baseline and 5 during intervention. The system will show a warning if data is insufficient.

Log it as soon as you remember, even if it was earlier in the day. You can edit the timestamp when logging. Accurate data is better than no data.
Should I log when the intervention works and behavior doesn't occur?
Yes! Log replacement behaviors and successful intervention applications. This data is crucial for measuring effectiveness.
How do I know if I'm implementing the intervention correctly?
Refer to the intervention description in Classroom Pulse. If unsure, ask your lead teacher or BCBA for a demonstration.
What counts as a significant event for phase change?
Events that might affect behavior: medication changes, schedule changes, family events, illness, substitute staff, classroom moves, etc.
How quickly should I log incidents?
Ideally within 5 minutes while details are fresh. Use Quick Log for speed. Add detailed notes within the same class period.
